Currently #13

Hi everyone!! Happy Wednesday. The snow is falling, I have a warm cup of tea and a candle going. It’s the perfect mix of warm and cozy!!!

It’s been a while since I have done a Currently. I have a lot to catch you up on, so let’s get to it!

What I’m up to: A new year always means a fresh start for me. I love creating new routines, setting new goals, and getting things fresh and clean. With the recent snowfall, I have been staying in more too! I have been doing lots of reading and binge watching too!

What I’m wearing: I have been loving all things warm and cozy on days off like hoodies, leggings, and cabin socks. But on days when I work, I am loving long sleeve dresses. I love the dress to look professional but when it keeps me warm is even better!

What I’m reading: One of my goals for the new year is to read every day and even though we are only a month in, I have been doing very well. Here are some of the books I have read so far. HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Fashion by Elizabeth Holmes. I found her Instagram account several months back and immediately fell in love! She covers royal fashion at home. She breaks down all the Royal Family members outfits down for their different appearances. Holms recently came out with a book that follows the fashion of Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. I really loved seeing the incredible photos and beautiful fashion. I also loved learning and reading about the history and background of the fashion and the events. It was especially fun to read it while I was watching The Crown. If you are a fan of The Royals or fashion, or both, this is the book for you! I would give it an A.

Such a good book!

Another book I read this past month was Drawing Home by Jamie Brenner. It’s your typical, light and easy summer read, but why not read it in the winter when you are needing a burst of sunshine! It tells the story of a young girl, Penny, and her mother, Emma, who live in a small town and how their summer unfolds after they inherit a house from a famous artist who dies. But why did he leave it to them? When his business partner, Bea, comes to town to claim the house, a battle between Emma and Bea begins. I finished this book in a week after reading a little bit after morning. There is a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, and a whole lot of smiles!!! Was it my favorite book? No. But was it still a fun and light read in the winter? Yes! I would give it a B. I save all my reads to my instagram account and you can follow along at elspethsdaybyday.

Another fun book for the summer or winter!

What I’m Watching: Besides reading, I have been doing a lot of binge-watching. After a year I finally finished 30 Rock! It was a good show, but I still love The Office or Parks and Rec more. It was definitely a relief to finish it! I have been watching some short series and documentaries. I watched The Social Dilemma, which was an interesting look at social media and how it influences our lives. I also hopped on the bandwagon and watched Bridgerton, it was soooooo good. I loved how it was Pride and Prejudice meets Gossip Girl. Such a fun concept and easy show to get through. I am currently making my way through The Queen’s Gambit which has me hooked. I also started Virgin River was has kept me busy too. Staying in during the winter means lots of reading and tv watching.

Finally Finished
Another great watch!
My latest binge

What I’m Loving:  I am loving everything warm and cozy! Whenever I am getting work done at home or watching or reading, I always have a blanket and a candle going. I also have been enjoying lots of outdoor walks too! I have been enjoying lots of warm drinks like cooc and tea. I’m also loving the idea of fresh starts and new beginnings for the new year.

How beautiful is this?!

What Inspires Me:  I’m inspired by a fresh and clean slate. Anyone else like to do a deep clean for the start of the year? I did a lot of cleaning earlier this month from organizing to cleaning and getting rid of stuff. It gets me refreshed for the new year.

What I accomplished:  I felt a sense of accomplishment by wrapping things up for the old year and starting fresh for the new year, there was no better feeling than getting my planner set up for the new year.

Goals Accomplished from Last Month Last month I got in the Christmas spirit with cooking, baking, Christmas gifts and movies. Even though I worked a lot, I was so happy I still got to enjoy the holidays when I could and be surrounded with family and friends.

Goals for the New Month: I have added a few more things to my daily routines to make my days go smoother and I’m looking forward to seeing how they help my day to day life. I’m looking for new hobbies for the new year and one of them is to try new recipes. I’m also looking for other hobbies so if you have any ideas send them my way.

More time outside is also on my goal list!

That’s just a look into my life this past month. Lots of new goals and fresh starts and a clean slate for the new year. What are some things you have been up to this year??

Keeping Your Energy Up

Hello everyone! I have a different post in mind for today. I don’t know about you but these past few weeks have flown by, mostly due to the fact I have been working a lot, between me filing in for people off, the Election coming up, and my normal work schedule, it has been very busy. I am still loving it but right now this season of life is work and although its busy, I’m learning a lot and my hard work is paying off. Last week, I had the opportunity to anchor and produce my first hour long show, and then two days later, I got to do it again. In those times I realized my hard work was paying off but I still have a lot to learn. That’s something that I love about what I do, every day I am constantly learning and improving.

With that being said, these past few weeks have been hectic, I have gone from working nights (3 pm – 12 am) to mornings (2 am -10:30 am), this week I am back to nights and weekends, which is my normal shift.

One question I get asked a lot with my job is keeping up with long days and changing schedules and keeping my energy up. For starters, I don’t drink coffee, and I don’t sleep a lot, haha, that’s something I’m working on. I don’t have a secret, mostly, once I’m up for the day at 6:30, I’m up. I head straight to the gym and then get things done around the house, whether it’s chores, or running errands, or picking up, I eat lunch and then it’s work time for the day/night, I eat dinner at work, so in total I eat two meals a day. After work, I come home and crash around 12:30.

So, definitely have long days but I’m on the go a lot and doing things so I’m keeping busy but if I sit down or chill then I get tired, so as long as I don’t sit down the energy keeps going, On weekends, it’s a different story since I work 9:30-6:30, so it’s more of a normal schedule. It’s when I work nights is when it gets tricky.

A few little tips/tricks I do to keep my energy up is by drinking lots of water, I try to drink 60 fluid ounces a day. Whether it’s at the gym, through the morning or at work. I stay very hydrated.

I also love to start the day at the gym, it gets me up and moving and energized and ready to take on the day and it wakes me up.

I also try to get outside as much as I can whether it’s a walk after the gym or to get the mail, I aim for 30 mins but sometimes it doesn’t happy.

I also remind myself about giving myself grace. I know easier said than done but reminding myself, “Grace Not Perfection”.

This is just a snapshot of life right now and answering some questions that I have been getting recently. Also, if you have nay tips on keeping your energy up…drop them below!!!

Things To Do on a Quiet Weekend

Hey Everyone!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope your week is off to a great start. I just got back from a very restful and much needed break at home. It was so good to get home for a while and rejuvenate for a bit. This is a big week, not only is it the last week before midterms but I am also leaving on Friday to head off to Rome, Italy for Spring Break!!!

So, why am I going to Rome?! I have been a part of a leadership program since I’ve been in college and one of the last components of the program is to learn and apply everything we have learned these past three years for a week in Rome. I travelled to Italy when I was in high school and I can’t wait to go back and get a new experience for this second time. I’ll be sure to post updates of my time abroad as well as several blog posts in the upcoming future.

Now, moving on to today’s topic: we are talking all about things to do during a quiet weekend. Whether you are a college student like myself, a young working professional, or a parent with free little time to yourself, I hope this post gives you ideas on ways to relax or activities to do when you don’t have a lot to do on the weekends.

As a college student, I often find myself busy through the week with classes, meetings, and commitments. However, during the weekends, everything tends to slow down, people head home for the weekend, there is not as many things going on, and the weekends are generally quiet. During my time in college, I’ve found many ways to occupy myself when things are quiet, there is only so much homework you can do and you can only get so far ahead in classes. Here are my favorite things to do on the weekend.

  • Binge watch the latest show on Netflix– I’m currently watching American Crime Story “The Assassination of Gianni Versace”, I’m obsessed with it. I loved watching “The People vs. OJ Simpson” a few years ago and was so excited when they came out with a second season.
Such a good mini series
  • Pick up a book and escape to a new world for a few hours– Although it is hard to come across time to read in college, free time on the weekend gives me time to get ahead on reading and relaxing. I just finished Jessie James Decker’s book, “Just Jessie” and I loved it. It was so easy to read and a good escape from my college books. I’ll be posting my review of her book in the next few weeks.
Such a fun book
  • Call up that friend you haven’t talked to in forever and catch up.-This is something I have been trying to do more this semester, I have been doing my best to reconnect with old friends, whether they are high school friends or childhood friends. There is nothing better than facetiming with a friend, swapping stories and sharing memories.
  • Self Care Night– After a busy week, take some time for yourself, whether it’s running a bubble bath and reading, doing a facemask, or painting your nails, pamper yourself with something special and make sure you are putting your best self forward for a new week ahead.
Nothing makes me feel better than a fresh coat of polish. I wore this color for Valentine’s Day!
  • Take a walk or work out.-Not as relaxing but you will feel better after. Sometimes a walk outside is all we need to clear our heads and recharge our batteries. If a walk is not your thing then hit the gym and sweat the stress away. Get your blood pumping and heart racing and you will feel great after!
  • Do something productive– If you have checked all these things off your list of things to do, then tackle a project that has been needing your attention for a while, whether it is a junk drawer that needs cleaned out, a binder that needs organized, clothes than need laid out, or meal prepping for the week ahead, set time aside to get ahead for the week so you aren’t scrambling on Monday morning.

I hope this list gives you some examples of things to do on a quiet weekend, although sometimes we crave the quiet and just need silence, it can also get boring and mundane. What activities to do you like to do on those few quiet weekends?

See you on Thursday for a new look of the day!
