Fashion Fun Ways to Organize

Transitioning Your Wardrobe

Hi everyone!

Happy Wednesday and more importantly, happy May! May is one of my favorite months of the year. I love the season change from spring to summer and the possibilities of a warmer month ahead. There’s nothing better than fresh flowers for a new month.

Speaking of the changing of seasons, now that we are finally into consistent warm weather, it’s time to change wardrobes from winter and spring to spring and summer. There’s a variety of ways to organize or switch over your clothes. Some do it by season, others do it by colors, a few may do it by what’s worn most to what’s worn the least.

If you are planning on making the switch from heavy clothes to light clothes, here’s a few ideas. This works for both girls and guys.

I organize my clothes by color. In my closet, I have all my hanging clothes situated from light to dark. I start with white (on the left side) then go yellow, pink, red, purple, blue, green, brown and black (to the far right). These are all dresses, blouses, sweaters, and light jackets or blazers (I keep heavy coats in a coat closet downstairs). This is a mix of long and short sleeve dresses (for all seasons). I like keep all my tops and dresses in one area. I don’t rotate them out for the season and here’s why: There are random days in March or April where you could have 75-degree day. Rather than having to dig through clothes in storage, I like to keep them all in one spot. Behind my black dresses, I have any pants and formal dresses.

A look into my closet, it’s small but does the job. Hanging clothes on the bottom. Hoodies and hats and scarves on the shelves in clear bins so I can see everything.

As far as drawers go, I have one drawer with winter tops (turtlenecks, heavy sweaters, long sleeve tops), then a second drawer with shorts, short sleeve tops). This is in addition to pajamas, workout clothes, bathing suits etc. in other drawers.  Having warm and cold clothes in separate drawers helps me be mindful or what I’m wearing when. It also saves me times when I am looking for more relaxed clothes, I’m only looking in one drawer in the colder months and another drawer in the warmer months.

Whenever we switch seasons, I always take the time to do a quick try-on and sorting of clothes. This doesn’t have to take too long, just set aside time and make it a point to sort, (I do this between winter and spring and then summer and fall). I’ll go through my closet and see what I’ve worn recently and what I haven’t worn, what fits and what doesn’t fit.

I always hope there’s things I can get rid of and donate to others. I did a big sort through a few months back and go rid of so many shoes too, some I hadn’t worn in years but kept holding onto just in case (we’ll get more to this later on). When I sort through clothes and shoes, it also allows me to see what things I’m in need of too. Why keep an old white t-shirt that doesn’t fit or that’s stained and taking up space when I can get rid of it and buy a fresh one that first better?

Here’s a few other tips that may work for you when it comes to transitioning your wardrobe:

-If you don’t love how you feel in it, don’t keep it. Why hold onto something you don’t feel your best in?

-If you haven’t worn it in the past year, make a point to wear it in the next six months, if you don’t wear it then, it’s time to say goodbye.

-Keep a running list on your phone of things that are must needs for your wardrobe, this is especially helpful when you get rid of things and you are looking to replenish.

These are just a few tricks that have worked well for me when it comes to the changing seasons for clothes. None of these are life changing hacks, but it works for me and maybe they will help you out.

I’m always open to new hacks for organization. What are your favorite ways to switch out your wardrobe between seasons?

Look of the Day #91

LOTD

Hi Guys!

Happy Thursday or TGIT, am I right?!

I’m so ready for the weekend! I’m heading home for the weekend for a much needed break and vacation. I’m doing some traveling over Spring Break, so I won’t be home then, therefore, I am taking a weekend off to spend time with family and relax. More on my spring break adventures next week! Not only am I looking forward to seeing family but also for the Oscars! Is anyone planning on watching?! Awards season is my favorite time of year! Haha!

Now, moving on to today’s look of the day. The weather this month has been all over the place, some days it’s cold and snowy, other days its warm and rainy, it has been such weird weather to dress for. This outfit is perfect for these weird days, warm for cold mornings but cool for warm afternoons. Let’s get to the details.

Warm and cozy for February

I’m wearing my go-to jeans with this outfit, my regular straight legged jeans get so much use in the fall and winter. I love how you can wear them with shoe boots, heels, or flats. So versatile! I got my pair from Old Navy, no better place to get affordable jeans. I decided to pair them with my black leather shoe boots. These shoe boots are from Marshalls from several years ago, they are so comfortable and can go with so many things.

Cooler outfit for the warmer weather

This top is one of my favorite things to wear in my wardrobe when I need a change in the winter. I got this top from Francesca’s Boutique. I shared this top in a dressier outfit here. Today’s outfit is more casual. I love how the top can dress up an outfit, also it works great for transitional weather.

I decided to accessorize this outfit with the gold and blue drop earrings which are a simple accessory but add a lot to an outfit.

This blue wool coat is worn on repeat in the winter months. I got this coat from Old Navy and it is perfect to wear with an all blue outfit or for a more of a dressier outfit. This scarf is also the perfect accessory for this blue winter coat. I got this scarf for Christmas and I love how warm and soft it is and the colors of pink, white, and blue work great with the blue jacket.

I love how these are all unique pieces but they work together. I hope this gives you some inspiration for mixing and matching pieces for the transitional weather.

I hope you have a great weekend. See you next Tuesday!

Look of the Day #71

LOTD

Hello All!

It’s Thursday! Also known as TGIT!! Anyone else out there looking forward to the return of Grey’s tonight?! I know I am ready for all my fall shows to be back! This has been a busy but productive week! I’m looking forward to a fun weekend with little to no work. It is a well deserved weekend off. I hope you have something fun planned for this weekend!

Now, that it is officially finally fall…I hope the weather continues to cool off. This past week the weather varied from being hot to rainy and cool. I’m ready for some consistent weather. The outfit I am wearing today is perfect for getting ready for the fall weather while it is still warm out.

A mix of summer and fall

I am wearing this light tank top from Old Navy. I also have it in orange and I love to wear them both with shorts, jeans, or leggings like today. I love the contrasting colors between the blue and the black.

I am wearing a pair of black leather leggings. This also have a fun print on them which breaks up the black. I got these leggings from Target. These pants were a great addition to my outfit. Although, it was sunny outside it was only in the high 60’s so I stayed comfortable with these pants.

I matched my pants with these cute dress sneakers. I got them for summer but I have worm them a lot in the fall. As always, Target was my go-to for these fun shoes. They go perfect with jeans, shorts, and leggings…not to mention they are comfortable and stylish. What more could you ask for?!

I can’t wait to bring out my fall wardrobe and wear it full time and not just mix and match outfits. Until then I am going to soak up the last bit of sunshine before the cold weather hits.

Have a great weekend and do something fun!
