Look of the Day #31

All warm for the winter months!

LOTD

Winter is underway back home for me. This outfit is perfect for some last minute shopping or if you are planning ahead this would work great for heading to class. All these pieces work well alone but when you put them all together, you get something special. I wore this outfit a few days ago and I got lots of compliments. No better feeling than feeling good in clothes you love. This outfit is warm and comfortable but looks chic. All things we look for in clothes.

We have all seen the boots I am wearing before (with skirts, dresses, jeans, and leggings) but today I changed it up and wore a pair of fuzzy boot socks with them to bring out the winter white.I got these socks from American Eagle.

These are my favorite faux leather leggings. They have a fun Aztec pattern on them. I love faux leggings because they dress up an outfit rather than just wearing black leggings.

My blue chambray shirt is from Old Navy. I love the faded light blue especially in the winter months. In the warmer months, if you pair it with a pair of white shorts, you get a great look too.

My winter white infinity scarf is from Target, believe it or not. It keeps me warm in the colder months and is a great statement piece. Plus, I adore how it matches my winter white boot socks.

A pair of silver hoops, top of my outfit. I hope this gives you some ideas of how to dress fashionably but still stay warm.

Next week, I have two posts planned for the new year!! We are going out of 2017 in style! Until then, I hope you and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas!!

Simple Christmas Decorating

Hello! Hello!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving spent with family and friends. I know I spent my break seeing family, eating, and sleeping; refueling before its back to school and finals are upon us. While I was home, I did some decorating for Christmas. Today I am going to showcase some easy and affordable Christmas decorations that can work in a dorm, at home or even in an office.

Here are some home ideas:

These glass jars filled with bright and colorful candy and sweets and make a great centerpiece. They also make a great discussion piece. The jars are in different shapes and sizes. In my jars, I have peppermints, ribbon candy, marshmallows, red hots, and candy canes. Fun and colorful!
This sleigh was from an old floral arrangement but I am reusing it for decoration. I got these colorful ornaments from Target. Put them together and you have a great table decoration. The book behind it adds a child aspect to the arrangement.
I love making a home feel cozy. By pairing together a candle with a candy dish and a floral arrangement turns a house into a home.

Here are Dorm Ideas:

I got this stocking for sale last year and it was perfect to bring some Christmas Cheer in to my dorm room. I have it hung on my bed so it’s one of the first things my guests see when they enter.
I love dressing up a room with festive pillows and blankets, I got this pillow as a gift last year and it goes perfect on my chair.
Gel clings are inexpensive and can dress up a window. Not only does it dress up your window but people passing by can get a taste of Christmas Cheer!
I got both the Christmas Lights and Santa’s sleigh from Target for $1.00 each!

These are a few easy and affordable ideas for Christmas decorating. All these decorations can work at school, work, and home. What are your favorite places to decorate? What decorating tips do you have?

Look of the Day #23

Happy Fall to All!

Today’s look is another perfect fall outfit. I wore it for a presentation in class and it worked great serving its purpose.  This look is more on the formal side but can be dressed up or down depending on what accessories you include.

Let’s start at the top. This cropped black jacket is a favorite of mine for fall and winter. It is thicker which works great for the upcoming cold months. It also has a bit of a sporty look to it which can really change and outfit.

I have worn this silk top before from Francesca’s with a pair of jeans but I’m wearing it again to show it in a different look. The pinks and purples add a pop of color to the outfit. The top is ¾ length sleeves which is great for fall.

I got these faux leather leggings from Target. They have an Aztec print on them and are super comfortable but my favorite part is that they don’t even look like leggings. I love the faux leather look and they add  a new dimension to the outfit besides wearing just a plain pair of black  leggings.

These are the first time you are seeing these high black leather boots on me but it won’t be the last. These are my favorite fall/winter boots. The look great with jeans, leggings, even a cotton dress or skirt. Throw on a pair of over the knee socks and you got yourself a complete outfit. In the winter i wear boots all the time. Having cute boots, really complete an outfit.

Well, there you have it my look from head to toe. I hope you find some inspiration with it. Happy Thursday!

Fun Ways to Organize

How to Organize: Your Pantry

This summer I tackled a project that was on my to-do list for a while. My pantry. After numerous pinning and watching organizational videos I took it upon myself to clean out and reorganize my pantry. Although it may seem, like a daunting project, it’s not as bad as you think. Let’s get started.

Before

Step 1: Clean it out.
I went through my pantry and completely cleaned it out and gave it a good wash down. This gave me the opportunity to throw out old or expired food and see what I had. Cleaning out the pantry gave me the chance to consolidate any food that I had as well. It also gave me an idea of what space I had to work with. It’s a great feeling to see any empty space just waiting to be utilized.

Step 2: Get shopping
Now, after you clean everything out there are two ways you can go about organizing . You can either put everything back in your pantry in an orderly manner or you can go shopping for some organizational tools. These tools allow you to keep things tidy, neat and you can get a better idea of what food you have in your pantry. There are so many options when it comes to organizational tools. I like to start my search by doing recon work. I hit a lot of stores to see what they carry, the amount they have, and the prices. I hit the basics like Home Goods, Target, Marshalls, Bed Bath and Beyond, T.J. Maxx, At Home, and Walmart to name a few. I ended up getting a majority of my tools from Home Goods, Bed Bath and Beyond and At Home. I decided to go with the Good Gripes OXO series but there was an abundance of different brands and options at all the store I went to. As I was shopping I kept in mind what containers I wanted to use to store my food it. This helped when it came to purchasing the right amount of containers.

Step 3: Get Organized
After I purchased all my containers I washed them all, I put all the food into the containers I had purchased. For some it was easy, for others it took trial and error to figure out what containers worked best for each food. After all the food was properly stored came the fun part. I got to organize the containers and baskets in my pantry. Once again this took time to see what set-up worked best for my pantry. I got chalkboard labels for my baskets to show what’s inside. I kept a few things in their packaging but for the most part everything is in clear containers.

After

I have had this setup for a few days now and I am really loving it. It keeps things neat and organized and it allows me to see my food and how much I have left of everything. This has been the biggest saver. I found myself in the past buying food because I didn’t remember seeing it in the pantry or I couldn’t find it. With the new containers I have a better understanding of what I have and what I need.

Although this was a big project, I am happy I got it done and I’m even more happier with the results.

My Fitness Journey {Part 3}

Heading to the gym, bright and early!

Today, concludes my three part fitness journey.

Here’s part one. Here’s part two. Just in case you missed them. I am going to wrap up my fitness journey and share how I get motivated to go to the gym and ways to stay healthy when you can’t make it to the gym.

For my gym-loving friends, no worries, there will still be more fitness posts in the future. You can never stop being healthy.

How I get motivated:

  • Go to the gym with a friend (or by yourself)
    • It’s great to go with someone to talk to, or be there for moral support. At the same time it’s great to take some time by yourself and go solo. I enjoy both, sometimes I like to go by myself and focus on me but at the same time it’s good to go with someone to push you.
  •  Buy some fun work out gear.
    • If you haven’t been to the gym in a while or are hesitant to go, buy some fun looks to sport at the gym. I am not an “Under Armour girl” or “a just Nike gal”. I wear anything. I have gotten some of my favorite pairs of work out pants from Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods on sale. Get something that makes you happy.

It’s always fun to match at the gym.
  • Lastly, be positive about it.
    • You wont see changes overnight but be proud of yourself for getting out there and doing it. Whether you went to the gym for an hour, found a Yoga DVD to watch and work on, or even went for a walk around the neighborhood. That’s something. You stepped out of your comfort zone and you should be proud of that. Remember to celebrate the little victories in life!

Ways to Stay Healthy:

  • Drink lots of WATER
    • It may sound crazy and I am sure you have heard it before but drink a lot of water. Some benefits that come along with drinking water includes: it increases your energy, flushes out toxins, gives you clearer skin, and it’s healthier than any other sugary drinks we put into our body every day. I go through a few bottles of water every day, easily. It also doesn’t hurt to have some fun cups or tumblers to put your water in. I got this bottle from Marshalls for under $10. I always bring it with me when I go to the gym.

Some fun motivation to get me through my workouts
  • Look for healthier options
    • I will have a post later in the year about my favorite healthy snacks and meals but until then, reach for something healthier. Instead of grabbing the doughnut and coffee on the way to work, have some dry cereal and water (maybe even a small coffee if you need it to get through the day!) If you are really craving that chocolate cake, eat it at 4:00 instead at 10:00 so you can burn it off in the evening before bed. We all can indulge ( I love chocolate so I don’t plan on giving that up anytime soon) but, it’s all about eating in moderation. Stay tuned for a longer post on healthy eating, but hopefully this will hold you over until then 🙂

That wraps up my journey to where I am today for my fitness. This is not the end, but only the beginning let’s get healthy together!

Fourth of July Favorites

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying time with your family and loved ones celebrating America’s birthday. Before I hit the pool and picnics, I wanted to share a few of my favorite things to have on the 4th.

  1.  Whether you are taking a dip in the pool, heading up to the lake or just tanning in the sun, a bathing suit is a must. I found this Red, White and Blue bikini at Target for under $20! It was a steal. I can’t wait to wear it! No outfit is complete without your nails so be sure to sport some red, white, and blue nail polish!

Got to love sporting some Red, White, and Blue
  2. Decorations are a must for any holiday. I love buying little American flags to decorate the gardens with. They are patriotic, affordable, and are easy to decorate with.
  3. Lastly, nothing screams 4th of July like tasty food. There is nothing better than grilling and having everyone bring a dish to share. I have a few of the desserts saved on Pinterest and I’m gonna give them shot. I’ll let you know how they turn out!
Gonna give this one a shot!

    Some yummy desserts!

Now, enough reading my blog and get out and celebrate our nation’s birthday. Be sure to thank a veteran while you are out. I’ll be back on Thursday to share my fourth of July look along with how everything turned out! Happy 4th of July!

Look of the Day #3

LOTD

Happy First Day of June!! Although, the start of summer is officially this month, it is only going to reach the low 60’s today. We have a way to go until we are spending days at the beach with 80 degree weather.

Today’s look of the day is a lightweight outfit you can wear on cool mornings and warmer afternoons. I chose to wear a busy top as my accent article of clothing and paired it with a neutral pair of pants and shoes.

The top is from Francesca’s, which is one of my favorite stores. They always have fun, unique clothing that you won’t find at big department stores. I always find different pieces of clothing to add to my closet. I have worn this lightweight, silky top during all four seasons. You can dress it up with a pencil skirt and heels for a day at the office or dress it down with a pair of jeans or leggings for a day of getting errands done. In the summer, I have even worn this top with a pair of Bermuda shorts and it worked great. I love clothes that can be paired with several kinds of bottoms.   My leggings are from Target. I like the washed out blue jean look with my top.   I decided to pair my top with leggings since it’s supposed to warm up in the afternoon, but I typically wear jeans with the top. Lastly, to get into the summer mode, I wore a pair of tan sandals from Kelly and Katie. They have fantastic prices, they are comfortable and stylish!

Here’s a little look into what I’m wearing today. Let me know what you would wear with this top. I love getting suggestions for new outfits!

Happy Thursday!!
