Shopping my Closet

It’s been a while since I’ve done a fashion post. BecauseI have to dress up every day for work, I do a lot of shopping in the store, but I also shop my closet a lot too. I love to mix and match outfits and looks for different functions, events and looks.

Here’s a few looks that I’m loving right now.

Look number 1

I wear a lot of black. In the fall and winter I have black dresses, tops, pants and skirts. It’s an easy, go-to, color that looks slimming and it’s also super versatile. You can dress it up or down depending on what you are feeling. Even though black is worn more in the winter months, it can be also worn on occasion n the summer which brings me to my look today.

A silk black blouse with black dress pants and a pair of pumps. I’ve had all these pieces in my closet and paired them all together for an outfit for work. The sleeveless blouse is perfect for summer. I got the blouse from Marshalls last summer. The black trousers are great for on the go and busy days, I got mine from Talbots. I chose the pump because they are versatile in all seasons. I’ve had these shoes for years. They are by Kelly and Katie and I got them from DSW. You can wear them with black tights in the winter or with black pants in the summer on those breezy days.

Look number 2

Another classic look is a summer dress. I wear a lot of dresses to work, and I love looks that are bold and bright. This dress was one I picked up late last season and I couldn’t wait to wear it this summer. I love the classic colors of pink, blue, and white. They are softer colors but also speak volumes. It’s a lightweight dress but has the formal feel to it. I got this dress from Ross Dress for Less last year. It’s a hit or miss for Ross for me, sometimes, I find great dresses, other times, I leave empty handed. My best advice is to always keep checking back. I wore this dress with a pair of blue pumps, but you can easily wear a flats, loafers or even sandals to change the look of the outfit. I would suggest wearing a navy blue or white shoe. This would be great to wear for work, a semi-formal occasion or a dinner.

Look number 3

My third and final look is a bright dress that screams summer fun. Once again, I got it late last season and couldn’t wait to wear it in the summer. Besides the bright color and the feel of the dress, the neckline is a favorite of mine. I also got this dress from Marshalls last year and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I think it stands out without being too bold. I wore this dress with a pair of white pumps but you can easily wear sandals or a kitten heel for a different style.

These are three looks that I’m loving this summer. I got them from a variety of affordable places that carry name brand items. These are all more dressed up looks for the summer months. I will have a roundup of casual outfits coming up soon. Until then, what looks are you loving this summer? Let me know below!

Three Looks for Work in the Summer

Hi friends!!! Happy Wednesday! I’m off of work for the work for a much needed break to reset and recharge. It has been so nice to change up the pace and enjoy a week of summer.

But next week, it’s back to reality, which means back to work. Since I have started to work full time, one of the things I’ve had to do is do some shopping for more professional clothes but also continue to update my wardrobe by mixing and matching outfits. I order several new dresses from Amazon, so be prepared for an Amazon Haul post coming soon!

Until then, I wanted to share three outfits for work for the summer, one is super professional, one is summer dress chic and the other is more work for on the go.

Let’s get to the most professional/ business casual.

This look is perfect for an interview or working in an office.

I wanted something that was neutral and simple and that’s exactly what I got when it came to picking out this outfit.

I first started with this skirt, I got it from Marshall’s. I love how it is a pencil skirt and can be worn with a suit or just by itself.

I decided to add a dark blouse as my top. I got it from Francesca’s Boutique, as a summer blouse but I have found many more uses and ways to wear it through the years. Although, it is sleeveless, I added a blazer to match it. Although, different opposite colors, the black and the light gray skirt complement one another very well.

As, I mentioned above, I wore my gray blazer as a finishing touch. I got this blazer from Marshall’s as well, a few years back. Although, the blazer and the skirt are not a matching set, the interior of the blazer which is seen when cuffed is almost a perfect match to the skirt and the black top ties the whole outfit together.

These shoes are my new favorite pair for the spring/summer/fall. I loved them so much I got them both in black and nude, they are Kelly and Katie from DSW. They are comfortable and I love the heel, not too high but reasonable.

I matched the outfit with my work bag from Michael Kors, now this outfit may not be for everyone’s work place, but it’s perfect for interviews or business meetings.

The next outfit is another one for the work place, professional but with more color.

I got this dress from Land’s End, there are so many things I like about this outfit. First, the color, I love how blue stands out. It’s a pop of color but it’s not too overwhelming. The next thing I love about it, is the cut and style. It is a straight cut dress, but you can move in it, it’s not super restricting, also it has pockets!!!!

Lastly, I really like the material, it is string and durable.

I matched the dress with a pair of blue pumps from DSW as well.

I wear a lot of navy, so these get a lot of wear in the spring and summer months.

Onto the last outfit, this outfit is more on the go but still professional, some days I’m working in an office and other days I’m not, it all depends.

For the days I’m not in an office, this is a great outfit on the go.

I got these pants from the Limited, I love how they are a straight cut pant and the navy makes them easy to with anything. Any print, bold or neutral color can go with it.

I got this pink top from Talbots, I really like the pop of summery color, plus it matches perfectly with the pink sweater from Gap. The blue and pink compliment each other very well. And to no one’s surprise, I got these shoes from DSW…surprise! Haha!

I also wanted to show how well my lunch tote matches my outfit.

Those are three separate outfits for work, from business professional, to sundress chic and on the go.

Stay tuned for more summer work outfits and next week, I have a supersized life update post! Be sure to check back next Wednesday for it!

See you then!

Look of the Day #132

LOTD

Hi All!

Since my last post, I have finished finals, finished work and have been packing and saying my goodbyes at school. It’s been a different week with no set schedule or routine, by I am taking it for what it is and enjoying all my moments at school. I can’t believe that I am days away from graduation… it is quite a surreal feeling. One thing that I have taken away from my time at college is to always dress for success and the appropriate ways to dress for an interview or work.

Today, I’m showing an outfit that is perfect for a job interview. It is professional and appropriate. Before, I get into the details, here are a few tips for dressing for an interview

-Keep your makeup simple and soft, don’t overdo it. You are going to get a job, not a date out with friends.

-The same goes for outfit choice, you want to choose an outfit that’s modest and appropriate.

-Always be prepared for any interview, bring your resume and reference with you as well as something to write with and a planner to be prepared.

-Do your research on the company you are interviewing at and don’t forget some questions too.

Now, onto the outfit. This is perfect for an interview or first day of work.

Job interview…check!

I got this outfit from all different stores, but they all fit great together.

First, these pants are from Talbots, I like the cut and style of the pant. They are a straight cut that go right to the ankle, which allows you to wear a small pump or heel. I opted for the same heels I wore for Thanksgiving. A simple black heel with a gold buckle. Kelly and Katie are my go-to for good quality shoes. It looks professional but it also adds length to your overall outfit.

My black top, is a short sleeveless blouse from Francesca’s Boutique. I often wear it in the summer, but I opted for the outfit since it matches the pants and the blazer.

This blazer is one that I wear often for formal occasions. I got it from Marshalls a few years back and I have worn it with dresses, jeans, and dress pants to fit any outing that I have.

When I wore this outfit, I felt put together and professional-two big things to keep in mind for job interviews and work.

Well, I am hours away from graduation day. I am planning on enjoying my last few days as a college student before it’s time for something new. I will see you back here on Tuesday for a very special post.

Until then, xoxo

Look of the Day #95

LOTD

Hey guys!!

Happy Thursday! I hope you have had a great week! With March more than half way done, we are getting closer and closer to warmer, spring weather. I’ve already been on the lookout for spring clothing and accessories. One thing that I have seen in a lot of stores are bold, floral patterns. I’ve already picked up a few pieces that I can’t wait to incorporate into my spring and summer wardrobe. Even though Spring is on my mind, I still have a few more outfits that are geared towards transitional weather. Today’s look of the day is more on the casual side but with a pop of business casual. Let’s get to this preppy look.

Modern yet classic style for today’s look of the day

Starting with the jeans. I love these boot cut jeans from Old Navy. I’m currently keeping my eyes open for a pair of jean capris or skinny jeans. Until then, I am sticking to my regular cut jeans, and boot cut jeans for the remaining weeks of colder weather.

I love to dress up jeans or add a pop of color with a pair of dark jeans. However, with today’s outfit I wanted to go with neutral colors and tones. I decided to go add just a plain white long sleeve shirt. I got my plain white shirt from Gap. I love the quality of their clothing for a good price. There is nothing like a crisp white shirt and a pair of navy jeans to make a simple outfit look clean and preppy.

Up close of the details

Since the weather is still chilly, I wore my high black boots when I was out and about. Although, these have been my go-to shoes for the winter, I am looking forward to bringing in some lighter and brighter shoes for the spring and summer.

I decided to polish off this look with a navy blazer. Not going to lie, I borrowed this from my mom’s closet and never returned it…opps! What can I say, it’s a very good quality blazer, that is well fitted and can work with many outfits. You can wear it with dresses, skirts, dress pants, and jeans. This blazer is from Talbots, it is more of a traditional or classic women’s clothing store, the clothing never goes out of style. For this outfit, I opted for more of a casual look, wearing it with jeans and a white shirt. I’m looking forward to wearing it with more professional pieces of clothing in the future.

All ready for a day out

That’s a look into my latest outfit. I hope this gives you inspiration for your next look. Have a super weekend!

Look of the day #76

LOTD

Hello All!

Happy Thursday. We are hours away from the weekend. I hope you have something fun planned for your weekend. I’m looking forward to relaxing and getting ahead on some work this weekend. As much as I love to relax on the weekend I also use the weekend to be productive and work ahead for the upcoming week.

Today’s outfit is perfect is perfect for a day filled with classes and meetings. This past week, I had a few days where I went between class and meetings, I think I had 5 meetings in a day, it was chaotic to say the least, but at the end of the day I felt truly productive. This outfit would be perfect for a day like that. It was both professional but also casual.

Ready for a day on the go

I got these jeggings from Target, they are my favorite, go to jeggings. They are comfortable and casual, perfect for a busy day at school.

These little brown booties. I got mine from Shoe Carnival. I love that I can wear them in fall and winter.

I got this light tan blazer from Talbots, I’ll let you in on a secret, I stole it from my mom’s closet. I love the fit and it is the perfect light jacket for Fall and Spring. I only have a few more weeks to wear this jacket, then it will be time for a darker, heavier jacket.

I decided to have some fun with my shirt for under my jacket. I will admit I have a guilty pleasure for Keeping up with the Kardashian’s. I had the opportunity to go to their New York City store and got a shirt. I love the simplicity of the black shirt with the white writing.

I decided to accessorize with a black choker necklace and some tight French braids for my hair. I needed an outfit that was professional and also comfortable and this outfit did the trick.

What is your go-to for dressing professional? What are your plans for the upcoming weekend?
