Summer To Do List

Hi all! Happy Wednesday! With summer underway, I always take the time at the start of the season to come up with a list of things I want to accomplish. In years past, I have a deadline with school starting back to get things done, but now with working, I donโ€™t have a deadline with going back to school.

I like creating lists of things I want to do to hold myself accountable to do things and also to give myself ideas when Iโ€™m looking to change things up in my daily routines.

  1. Read 20 Books (Iโ€™ve read 18 last summer so I want to up my books for this summer)
  2. Finish 30 Rock (I keep starting it but never finish it)
  3. Be outside for 3-4 days a week (whether its swimming, walking, or running)
  4. Spend 30 minutes outside a day (Eating, reading, doing work, I want more sunshine)
  5. Go someplace new
  6. Catch up with college friends (lots of plans have gotten changed due to Coronavirus, so Iโ€™m hoping to start rescheduling things)
  7. See high school friends (hoping to make more time for friends near and far)
  8. Entertain friends at home (I love entertaining so Iโ€™m hoping to have more friends over)
  9. Wine Tasting (my friends and I have talked about doing this for ages, hoping we can finally make it happen this summer)
  10. Beach Day
  11. Dinner by the water (I love living by the water and having dinner by it is so nice)
  12. Kayaking (I love being on the water in any form)
  13. Working out (I want to keep being consistent with it)
  14. Pool Day
  15. Bonfire
  16. Day Trips
  17. Really take time to slow down ( I took the time during Coronavirus to slow down and I want to continue to do that)
  18. Summer restaurants (I have a few favorite seasonal places that I canโ€™t wait to get back to)
  19. Ice Cream shops
  20. Take advantage of local spots and free activities

This is just a start on my to do list and who knows what the summer holdsโ€ฆlet the adventure begin!

The Importance of Slowing Down

Enjoying some quiet time in the morning before my crazy and long day gets underway.

Happy Tuesday! I just got back from a restful weekend following a crazy week which reminded me that I need to slow down more. Today is all about the importance of stepping back and slowing down. Life is crazy, itโ€™s full of wonderful, exciting, crazy, stressful moments.

The transition from living at home to living at college is tough but it’s also tough to move back home. Now, I love school and college but I also love being home. One thing that I noticed coming back home was the chaos and busy schedules. I loved being at school and setting my own schedule from classes to meals and hanging out with friends. When I got home, I was thrown into other people’s schedules which was hard. It made me realize that although my life may be busy I need to carve time out to slow down. Whether you come from a family of six or a family of two, there is bound to be times when you are always on the go.

Life can be stressful and crazy so we need to take care of ourselves before we lose control of everything. For me, I take time when I come home from work before going to another activity for myself. Instead of coming in and starting on wash or picking up, I will go outside and read for fifteen or twenty minutes. The wash will always be there and will need to be done. But, it’s important that I take a few minutes for myself.

There are so many ways we can slow down and take time for ourselves. For example, go for a walk after dinner, find things to add to your boards on Pinterest, read between activities, watch your latest show on Netflix while folding wash (yes, multitasking—my favorite word), even just sitting and doing nothing (even staring at wall) works too! We are constantly pressured to take care of your bodies by working out, and our families but entertaining, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. The next time you are late to a soccer game or your boss kept piling more and more things on your desk, take a breath, give yourself a break and make sure you are taken care of too.

Our lives maybe filled with schedules and agendas but, it’s important to slow down and enjoy the little things in life.
