Friday Favorites #57

Happy Friday Friends and Happy September!

Even though we are in a month associated with fall, Iā€™m holding onto summer for as long as I can. I hope you have something fun planned for Labor Day weekend and the end of the summer season. This weekend, I plan on spending time outside, getting in some pool time and some family time too.

Soaking up summer with every last ice cream!

Before we get to the weekend, I want to share some things Iā€™m loving this week as I link up withĀ ErikaĀ andĀ AndreaĀ for another edition of Friday Favorites.

Becoming Free Indeed– A few months ago, I mentioned I am trying out Audible for a free trial and one of the first books I listened to was ā€œBecoming Free Indeedā€ by Jinger Vuolo. I grew up watching Jinger Vuolo on 19 Kids and Counting and I have continued to follow her after the show ended. I was interested to read her book about her faith and life and decided to listen to the audiobook version to hear it read in her voice. Through the book, she mostly focuses on her faith and how her relationship with God has changed through her life. She doesnā€™t focus too much about her family or the drama that has surrounded them in recent years. Overall, I thought it was interesting to hear her perspective about her faith and relationship with God.Ā

Brown Flats– I got my first taste of fall with this purchase. I was on the hunt for some sturdy but fashionable flats and found them at DSW, they are by Kelly and Katie. I love the extra cushion and support they provide, plus the dark brown allows them to go with dress pants, skirts, and even jeans. Plus, the gold buckle is such a cute accessory. These shoes and fall fashion will make saying goodbye to summer a little less painful.

Katie Couricā€™s Wake Up Call Newsletter– This isnā€™t new, but this is something I use every day and wanted to share. One of the first things I do when I get up is check the top news headlines. I get them from various apps and sources, from my local news app, to USA Today, Twitter (X), and then Katie Couricā€™s Wakeup newsletter that gets sent into my inbox every morning. It covers national and world headlines along with some entertainment news and then some features. It takes only a few minutes to read, but it brings me up to speed every day. You can learn more and subscribe here, definitely a great source if you are looking to get a comprehensive scope of news.

A look at the newsletter

The Morning Show Season 3 Trailer- The new season of the Morning Show begins this month. Iā€™m excited for this upcoming season especially after seeing the trailer that was released last week. It looks like this season will be filled with drama, a cyber attack, some new faces and a lot of morning news. Itā€™s been interesting to see how the show has evolved and changed since its begun and how it brings in whatā€™s going on in the world into the show. Iā€™m excited for some new shows to watch!

Laundry Crystals– Call me crazy, but I love doing laundry. I always like to stay on top of laundry with six people and Iā€™m always interested to see what things are out there to keep my clothes fresh. I have been using these Purex laundry crystals in my washer to keep my clothes fresh. I have used the Unstoppables brand in the past too and have enjoyed how they keep my clothes smelling fresh. They are just a little something extra that keeps my clothes smelling fresh after a wash.

There you have it, a look into some of my favorite and sometimes practical things that I am loving this. As we say hello to September, what things are you looking forward to this month? Let me know in the comments below! I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

Summer Outfit RoundUp

Hello all!! I canā€™t believe itā€™s August!!! Where has the summer gone?! I do have to say Iā€™ve been making the most of the summer days and nights. From walks, grilling nights, pool days and lots of ice cream. The summer months have also given me more opportunities to try new outfits and looks. Hereā€™s some of my favorite summer looks so far! This will be part of a new series every few months called Season Outfits Roundup. Every few months I will share different outfits I’m wearing for work or play or anything in between.

Most of these are work outfits/professional dresses for this roundup. But, I think between the style and the colors they can be worn for graduation parties, church, cocktail parties, etc. I have linked some of the dresses that I could find online, others I bought last season.

Outfit Number 1: I got this dress from Amazon. The brand is Musol. The fabric is polyester and spandex. I love the light lavender color. I think it could work great for spring or summer. The fabric is lightweight and it stretches to conform to any body type. I also love that its machine washable and fits true to size.

Full length dress.

I wore silver jewelry as accents and then pair of black pumps from Kelly and Katie.

Close up of the neckline and jewelry and makeup.

Outfit Number 2: For another work dress, this royal blue pops for summer. I got this dress from Ross last fall on the clearance rack and I couldn’t wait to wear it this summer. It’s actually a Calvin Klein and it’s all polyester, which is my favorite material/brand to wear at work. I also have the dress in a different style and color but same material because I loved the feel so much. I love the top/sleeves of the royal blue dress, I think that makes it a bit different and stand out. You DO need to dry clean this dress. It fits true to size. I decided once again to wear my black pumps from Kelly and Katie with silver jewelry again.

The full dress.
Same material but different style and color. I got this from Marshalls.

Outfit Number 3: I love a light blue for summer. I loved the color so much I got it in a longer sleeve dress too. I’ll share that one in the fall. I also got this dress from Amazon. The brand is MUXXN. This dress is perfect for spring and summer weather. The neckline is my favorite too. I like the uneven scope. You DO need to dry clean this dress as well. The material is a mix of Rayon, Cotton, and Spandex, so it’s a more stretchy material if that makes sense. I have this same fabric in an orange dress which I really like.

Full length of the dress
Close up of neckline and jewelry.
Different color and style but same material, purchased through Amazon
Again different style and color but same material. Also purchased through Amazon.

Outfit Number 4: Sometimes, you just want to throw on an easy dress while still looking professional and this does the trick. It’s both cotton and polyester. This is also an Amazon purchase. The brand is VFShow. I love the bold colors on the top of the blue, white and black. I like the soft material and the cuffed sleeves. You can throw this in the washer and dryer which makes clean-up even easier!

Outfit Number 5: I wouldn’t consider this last look as work look. I think this would be better for dinner and drinks out or maybe a picnic. I got this top from Marshall’s last summer and I love the soft pink color. The cross over tie is a fun twist on the top too. It’s also very flowy and light weight which is a win for summer. I got the capris from American Eagle, but I have worn white dress pants to dress the outfit up. To dress it down, you can wear sandals or sneakers, to dress it up I would recommend wearing heels.

That’s a roundup of some outfits I’ve been wearing this summer for work and play. I wear a lot more work clothes compared to play clothes haha! Amazon has been a great place for deal and fun colors and styles of dresses. I often have luck at Marshall’s, T.J.Maxx and Ross‘ too! Where are your favorite places to shop?!

Shopping my Closet

Itā€™s been a while since Iā€™ve done a fashion post. BecauseI have to dress up every day for work, I do a lot of shopping in the store, but I also shop my closet a lot too. I love to mix and match outfits and looks for different functions, events and looks.Ā

Hereā€™s a few looks that Iā€™m loving right now.

Look number 1

I wear a lot of black. In the fall and winter I have black dresses, tops, pants and skirts. Itā€™s an easy, go-to, color that looks slimming and itā€™s also super versatile. You can dress it up or down depending on what you are feeling. Even though black is worn more in the winter months, it can be also worn on occasion n the summer which brings me to my look today.

A silk black blouse with black dress pants and a pair of pumps. Iā€™ve had all these pieces in my closet and paired them all together for an outfit for work. The sleeveless blouse is perfect for summer. I got the blouse from Marshalls last summer. The black trousers are great for on the go and busy days, I got mine from Talbots. I chose the pump because they are versatile in all seasons. Iā€™ve had these shoes for years. They are by Kelly and Katie and I got them from DSW. You can wear them with black tights in the winter or with black pants in the summer on those breezy days.

Look number 2

Another classic look is a summer dress. I wear a lot of dresses to work, and I love looks that are bold and bright. This dress was one I picked up late last season and I couldnā€™t wait to wear it this summer. I love the classic colors of pink, blue, and white. They are softer colors but also speak volumes. Itā€™s a lightweight dress but has the formal feel to it. I got this dress from Ross Dress for Less last year. Itā€™s a hit or miss for Ross for me, sometimes, I find great dresses, other times, I leave empty handed. My best advice is to always keep checking back. I wore this dress with a pair of blue pumps, but you can easily wear a flats, loafers or even sandals to change the look of the outfit. I would suggest wearing a navy blue or white shoe. This would be great to wear for work, a semi-formal occasion or a dinner.

Look number 3

My third and final look is a bright dress that screams summer fun. Once again, I got it late last season and couldnā€™t wait to wear it in the summer. Besides the bright color and the feel of the dress, the neckline is a favorite of mine. I also got this dress from Marshalls last year and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I think it stands out without being too bold. I wore this dress with a pair of white pumps but you can easily wear sandals or a kitten heel for a different style.

These are three looks that Iā€™m loving this summer. I got them from a variety of affordable places that carry name brand items. These are all more dressed up looks for the summer months. I will have a roundup of casual outfits coming up soon. Until then, what looks are you loving this summer? Let me know below!

Three Looks for Work in the Summer

Hi friends!!! Happy Wednesday! Iā€™m off of work for the work for a much needed break to reset and recharge. It has been so nice to change up the pace and enjoy a week of summer.

But next week, itā€™s back to reality, which means back to work. Since I have started to work full time, one of the things Iā€™ve had to do is do some shopping for more professional clothes but also continue to update my wardrobe by mixing and matching outfits. I order several new dresses from Amazon, so be prepared for an Amazon Haul post coming soon!

Until then, I wanted to share three outfits for work for the summer, one is super professional, one is summer dress chic and the other is more work for on the go.

Letā€™s get to the most professional/ business casual.

This look is perfect for an interview or working in an office.

I wanted something that was neutral and simple and thatā€™s exactly what I got when it came to picking out this outfit.

I first started with this skirt, I got it from Marshallā€™s. I love how it is a pencil skirt and can be worn with a suit or just by itself.

I decided to add a dark blouse as my top. I got it from Francescaā€™s Boutique, as a summer blouse but I have found many more uses and ways to wear it through the years. Although, it is sleeveless, I added a blazer to match it. Although, different opposite colors, the black and the light gray skirt complement one another very well.

As, I mentioned above, I wore my gray blazer as a finishing touch. I got this blazer from Marshallā€™s as well, a few years back. Although, the blazer and the skirt are not a matching set, the interior of the blazer which is seen when cuffed is almost a perfect match to the skirt and the black top ties the whole outfit together.

These shoes are my new favorite pair for the spring/summer/fall. I loved them so much I got them both in black and nude, they are Kelly and Katie from DSW. They are comfortable and I love the heel, not too high but reasonable.

I matched the outfit with my work bag from Michael Kors, now this outfit may not be for everyoneā€™s work place, but itā€™s perfect for interviews or business meetings.

The next outfit is another one for the work place, professional but with more color.

I got this dress from Landā€™s End, there are so many things I like about this outfit. First, the color, I love how blue stands out. Itā€™s a pop of color but itā€™s not too overwhelming. The next thing I love about it, is the cut and style. It is a straight cut dress, but you can move in it, itā€™s not super restricting, also it has pockets!!!!

Lastly, I really like the material, it is string and durable.

I matched the dress with a pair of blue pumps from DSW as well.

I wear a lot of navy, so these get a lot of wear in the spring and summer months.

Onto the last outfit, this outfit is more on the go but still professional, some days Iā€™m working in an office and other days Iā€™m not, it all depends.

For the days Iā€™m not in an office, this is a great outfit on the go.

I got these pants from the Limited, I love how they are a straight cut pant and the navy makes them easy to with anything. Any print, bold or neutral color can go with it.

I got this pink top from Talbots, I really like the pop of summery color, plus it matches perfectly with the pink sweater from Gap. The blue and pink compliment each other very well. And to no oneā€™s surprise, I got these shoes from DSWā€¦surprise! Haha!

I also wanted to show how well my lunch tote matches my outfit.

Those are three separate outfits for work, from business professional, to sundress chic and on the go.

Stay tuned for more summer work outfits and next week, I have a supersized life update post! Be sure to check back next Wednesday for it!

See you then!

Look of the Day #133

LOTD

Hey everyone! I have a special look of the day for you today! Today, Iā€™m sharing my graduation look of the day! I wish I had better photos from the day, but I was too busy being present in the moment and enjoying the day. But, I did manage to snap a few quick shots of my outfit before my big day. I couldnā€™t let the day get by without documenting the look that I wore on graduation day.

I found this dress back in October at Marshallā€™s. I was hunting for something sophisticated but also something that I could wear more than once. I can wear this dress for Christmas, to work, or to a dinner party. I had looked at the mall and several stores and Marshallā€™s was my last stop, and I found the perfect dress there.Ā

I love the material of it and the color of green. I am always on the hunt for green accents and I was so excited I finally found one. My schoolā€™s color is green and gold so I couldnā€™t believe it when I found a dress that was green and gold. The dress is simple and sophisticated and I love the gold accents. I decided to add a green emerald ring and gold earrings. I lasted added a slight heel with a Mary Jane style. These are my favorite heels from Kelly and Katie at DSW. The gold buckle was my favorite part, it brought out the gold in my dress and cap and gown too!Ā

I loved my dress and I canā€™t wait to wear this outfit more through the winter months. Sorry for the short but sweet post, but I wanted to share this look with you all. The countdown to Christmas is on!

Enjoy the final push for the holidays.Ā

Look of the Day #132

LOTD

Hi All!

Since my last post, I have finished finals, finished work and have been packing and saying my goodbyes at school. Itā€™s been a different week with no set schedule or routine, by I am taking it for what it is and enjoying all my moments at school. I canā€™t believe that I am days away from graduationā€¦ it is quite a surreal feeling. One thing that I have taken away from my time at college is to always dress for success and the appropriate ways to dress for an interview or work.

Today, Iā€™m showing an outfit that is perfect for a job interview. It is professional and appropriate. Before, I get into the details, here are a few tips for dressing for an interview

-Keep your makeup simple and soft, donā€™t overdo it. You are going to get a job, not a date out with friends.

-The same goes for outfit choice, you want to choose an outfit thatā€™s modest and appropriate.

-Always be prepared for any interview, bring your resume and reference with you as well as something to write with and a planner to be prepared.

-Do your research on the company you are interviewing at and don’t forget some questions too.

Now, onto the outfit. This is perfect for an interview or first day of work.

Job interview…check!

I got this outfit from all different stores, but they all fit great together.

Ā First, these pants are from Talbots, I like the cut and style of the pant. They are a straight cut that go right to the ankle, which allows you to wear a small pump or heel. I opted for the same heels I wore for Thanksgiving. A simple black heel with a gold buckle. Kelly and Katie are my go-to for good quality shoes. It looks professional but it also adds length to your overall outfit.Ā

My black top, is a short sleeveless blouse from Francescaā€™s Boutique. I often wear it in the summer, but I opted for the outfit since it matches the pants and the blazer.Ā

This blazer is one that I wear often for formal occasions. I got it from Marshalls a few years back and I have worn it with dresses, jeans, and dress pants to fit any outing that I have.Ā

When I wore this outfit, I felt put together and professional-two big things to keep in mind for job interviews and work.

Well, I am hours away from graduation day. I am planning on enjoying my last few days as a college student before itā€™s time for something new. I will see you back here on Tuesday for a very special post.

Until then, xoxo

Look of the Day #131

LOTD

Hey everyone!

I donā€™t know about you but I am ready for the holidays. It was so nice to be home for Thanksgiving and to relax and unwind with family, it was a busy but relaxing break. Now I have less than a week until I wrap up classes, finals, and then itā€™s graduation time. I canā€™t believe how fast this semester has gone. Truly, I have learned a lot both in and out of the classroom as well as about myself.

One of my favorite things to do when I am home is get in some retail therapy, whether itsā€™s clothes for work, school, or an occasion, I love seeing whatā€™s new in the stores. I was home a few weeks back and was doing some browsing. I am always on the hunt for new work dresses. Old Navy was having a sale and I knew I had to stop in. Iā€™m so glad I did, because I snagged this dress and it is going to be a must wear in my wardrobe especially for work  in the winter months.

I wore this outfit for Thanksgiving and I loved how effortless it is, but it still looks put together.

The cut and style of the dress is a favorite of mine. The A-line gives the dress a flattering look. It is professional but also dressy. You can wear this dress to work or to a holiday gathering or office party. This dress is timeless especially with the black and white detailing.

Due to the chiller weather, I opted for a short black sweater, also from Old Navy. This dress was originally short sleeve so I needed any extra layer and I was happy I chose it. I also made the decision for black tights and a short black heel. These heels are practical and still fashionable with the buckle. Not only are the cute, but also comfortable since they are from Kelly and Katie, I know I can depend on them.

This will be a go-to outfit in my closet for the winter months. What are some essential outfits in your closet during the winter months?!

Look of the Day #106

LOTD

Hi All!

Itā€™s Thursday and finally June! Today also happens to be two of my closets friendā€™s birthdays, my first and only roomie from college, Danielle, and my best friend from high school Madeline are both turning 21! I canā€™t wait to celebrate with both of them soon. I seriously donā€™t know where I would be without these gals and their unconditional love and friendship!

This weekend I am also going to be travelling to Pittsburgh to celebrate my birthday with all my college friends! I canā€™t wait!!! But before, I head out for the weekend, I have a few more days of work ahead of me. Todayā€™s look of the day is another business casual look for the office. I spend 90% of my day in the office so I am always putting together professional outfits and today is no different.

Letā€™s break down this professional look of the day!

For starters, I got these straight legged black dress pants from Old Navy, I was on the hunt for months for a nice dress pant that didnā€™t look like leggings, although I do wear leggings, the workplace is not the place for them. These dress pants are straight legged, professional, durable, all qualities I am looking for in a dress pant.

I opted for a simple pair of Mary Jane pumps from the Kelly and Katie collection at DSW. They do have a slight heel but very professional for the office, and VERY comfortable. I can wear them for 8-10 hours a day and have no serious pain.

Since I wore black dress pants and black shoes, I wanted to brighten up my look, I chose this pink/white/black blouse from Marshalls to wear with my outfit. It looks professional but also adds a pop of color!

A black blazer or white or black sweater would also be a great accessory. I added simple silver jewelry to polish off my look.

Thatā€™s a look into what I am wearing today at the office. Iā€™m off to wrap up these few days at work before my weekend away begins! See you all on Tuesday!

Look of the Day #100

LOTD

HAPPY 100 LOOK OF THE DAY!

I canā€™t believe I have created 100 looks, when I started this blog almost 2 years ago, I had no idea I would still be able to create outfits, I do have to say I have worn multiple pieces time and time again on my blog, but I have mixed them up and made them fresh and new. One of my favorite things about fashion is the ability to re-wear outfits in different ways and using what you have in your closet to put together a look. You can constantly have new outfits without breaking the bank.

Todayā€™s look of the day is perfect for the spring weather we are experiencing. Last weekend, I was home to celebrate Easter with my family. I had found this dress a few months back and I couldnā€™t wait to wear it for Spring. Letā€™s get to this new number.

Floral for Easter

I was browsing a few months ago for some new pieces to add to my collection and one trend I kept seeing was floral patterns in different pieces. I found this perfect spring dress at Old Navy. I love that it is can be worn more dressed up for Church, going to work with a pair of heels and a sweater or more casual with a pair of sandals, and jean jacket. I got this floral pattern in a dress and scarf, but they also had it in blouses, tank tops, and dress pants. How fun?! Although, I could have gotten it in every article of clothing I opted for just the dress and scarf. Hereare similar dresses from Old Navy with the pattern in different cuts and styles.

I decided to dress this outfit up with a pair of heels. I absolutely love these pale-yellow heels. I got them from DSW from Kelly and Katie.Although, I donā€™t wear a lot of yellow, when I do have a lighter dress, or floral dress these shoes are the perfect pop of color. They tie the dress and other accessories together in a beautiful and simple way.

Up close of the details

I know this dress is going to be worn in heavy rotation this summer. The possibilities are endless with a bold dress like this to dress up or down. What article would you wear this pattern in? Dress? Blouse? Scarf? Dress Pants? Let me know in the comments below! Have a fantastic weekend. Enjoy the spring weather and spend some time outside!

Look of the Day #46

LOTD

Hello All!

Happy April!

I hope your Aprilā€™s are all off to a good start. I am back to school for the last leg of the semester. This semester and year has flown by!Ā  My April is jammed packed, if I survive this month, I think I can tackle anything. Haha.

Today, I am sharing the outfit I wore on Easter. I spent my Easter Sunday by attending mass and spending time with family. I couldnā€™t have asked for a better day. Ā I think Spring is finally upon on, I wanted to get in the spirit with this bold print floral dress. I donā€™t often wear these colors, but I saw the dress a few years ago and couldnā€™t resist.

I actually purchased this dress two years ago from Nordstromā€™s . Unfortunately, it is no longer in stock. Ā I wore it for my high school Baccalaureate Mass. It was held at the end of the year and I love the bright colors. I love to buy things that are very good quality so i can wear them on numerous occasions especially as I will be heading into the real world soon. I love the dark blues and greens, but I love the pop of yellow even more. I decided to bring out the yellow with these light-yellow heels from Kelly and Katie, I got them at DSW a few years ago as well. I added some simple but classic to go along with the dress and shoes.

I donā€™t often wear bold dresses like this, but I decided to change up my look for Easter. I often choose to wear simple colors and add bold jewelry or accessories as my statement pieces. Today, however, my dress was my statement piece.

I canā€™t wait for Spring to get fully underway for all things spring fashion. What trends are you looking forward to this spring/summer season?

Also, I will be out of town this weekend, to follow along with my adventures, check out my Instagram for all things travel @elspethsdaybyday

See you next week!!
