Friday Favorites #104

Hello all! Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week! I say this at the end of every month, but this month flew by. The next month will be packed with activities so I’m looking forward to a few more days of calmness before it gets crazy. I have been starting most mornings but taking a short walk to cut some flowers and it’s such a beautiful, but slow way to start the day, get some fresh air and bring some of nature indoors.

Here’s a look at some of the things I have been loving this week as I link up with with Erika and Andrea

I Am Celine– I have enjoyed Celine Dion’s music and was sad to learn when she announced her illness last year. Her new documentary “I Am Celine” is now on Amazon Prime. I really loved getting a behind the scenes look at her life before and after her illness. I also loved hearing some of her iconic songs throughout the documentary. Definitely worth the watch if you are a Celine fan.

Summer Dress– I got this dress from Ann Taylor earlier this summer and wore it to both to work and for a wedding. It is such a perfect outfit for a summer wedding or shower. Itā€™s bright and cheery and light and flowy too. Perfect for an afternoon or evening out. I wore it with wedges and hoops, but you can wear it with studs and stilettos.

Wow Volumizer Spray– I got sucked into an ad from Pinterest and saw this Wow volumizer spray online and decided to try it for myself. It works great and I have definitely seen a difference in my hair when I do it up for work. I typically just put a pumps in my hair right before I style it and it gives my hair volume for several hours.

One True Loves– I read One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid a few years ago and blogged about it here. I really loved the book and was excited to learn it would be made in a movie. I finally got around to watching it and really loved it. I think it stayed pretty true to the book. They did a great job with casting as well. Watching movies or tv shows based on books can be hit or miss, but I would consider this to be a hit. You can watch it on Hulu.

The Perfect Couple trailer– Speaking of books being made into series or movies, the trailer for The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand came out last week and I canā€™t wait for the series to come out on Netflix in the fall. I blogged about my thoughts on the book here. Itā€™s all about a couple whose daughter is getting married but someone ends up murdered during the wedding weekend. I canā€™t wait to see how the book compares to the series. You can watch the trailer here.

Thatā€™s a look into what Iā€™m loving this week. What are some things that are catching your attention this week? Have a great weekend!

Book Review-Little Fires Everywhere

Hey everyone!

Happy Tuesday. School has been keeping me busy which has left little time for reading. As much as I love to read at the end of the day, after studying and reading all day, sometimes you just need a breather. Luckily, I found a great book that made me want to read even after a full day of studying and classes.

I know I am late to the game, but I read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I have heard a lot of good things about this book and with the new limited series coming out through Hulu, I knew I wanted to read it before it came out. I was at a book sale a few weeks back and picked up this book and couldnā€™t wait to get started.

First, letā€™s talk about the casting: Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Joshua Jackson, Jesse Williams and more. This casting made me want to read the book even more. I may just get Hulu to stream the series when it comes out in 2020.

Okay, now to the review. I really enjoyed this book. It took me a little over a week to finish it, I would have been done with it earlier but school and work caused me to read it in short installments. I read a little bit every day, some days more than others.

This story follows the lives of the picture-perfect Richardson family and their new mother/daughter tenants, the Warrenā€™s. All seems to go fine when they meet and their children spend time with each other. But as the story goes on secrets are uncovered in both families, peopleā€™s pasts are brought into question, and when an adoption of a fellow neighbor goes viral, people must take sides. Itā€™s a very complex book but itā€™s not confusing. It goes into the pasts of the main characters and other supporting characters are sucked into the plot as well. There are issues of motherhood, doing whatā€™s right, friendship, and community. It takes place in the 1990ā€™s in Cleveland, Ohio but many of the issues that are dealt with in the book could still be applicable today.Ā  There was many twists and turns through the book and you will be wondering if all your questions get answered. The ending took me by surprise, if you have read it, what did you think?

Overall, I would give this book an A-.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was sad when it was over. You know you read a good book when you arenā€™t ready for it to end. I canā€™t wait to see the mini-series when it comes out, it will be interested to see how the book compares to the series and what changes they make.

Have you read any good books lately?! What are your favorites?! Let me know in the comments below. Happy reading friends!

Bingeable TV Shows

Ahhh the carefree days of Summerā€¦no school work, a time for making money for most college students like myself, but most importantly R&R. Between all the working I love to relax and unwind by reading or catching up on my favorite tv shows or binge watching new shows. Here are my top five picks for bingeable tv shows and the service you can find them on.

Everyone loves a good laugh and The Office doesnā€™t disappoint. From Michael Scottā€™s antics, the relationship between Jim and Pam, and the days at a Paper Company, the laughs are endless. There are 9 seasons and episodes are less than 30 minutes. A perfect companion to watch while you are relaxing, doing a load of wash, or hanging out with friends. The Office can be found on Netflix.

A classic comedy about working in an office

Whether you have an interest in medicine, relationships, friendships, or navigating a new job, this is the show for you. Watch the epic love story between Meredith and Derek and see what it means to be someoneā€™s person. This drama has 14 seasons under its belt and is still going strong. Episodes range 43 minutes and there are plenty of twists and turns through the series. Greyā€™s Anatomy can be found on Netflix.

Whether you watch it for the medicine or the relationships, this show is for you,

So many good things about this show, from the relationships, special guest cameos, the many memories in that one apartment, but importantly, the friendships. Whether this the first time you are watching FRIENDS, or you are a super fan and know every line and know exactly what it means when someone says, ā€œWE WERE ON A BREAKā€! FRIENDS is the show for you. There are 10 seasons and episodes run for 21 minutes. You can watch this with your friends on Netflix.

Nothing better than watching Friends with friends!?

The New York trends continues but this time we are catching up with our favorite girlfriends. In honor of the 20th anniversary, this show is so iconic, from the fashion, the MANY boyfriends, the trips, but most importantly, the love of girlfriends. There were so many wonderful moments that made this show so special, from Carrieā€™s column becoming a book, the failed marriage between Charlotte and Trey, Samantha finally falling in love with Smith, Miranda being the first of the four to become a mother, and Mr. Big going all the way to Paris to tell Carrie she is the ONE. The show ran for 6 seasons and episodes are under a half hour. The show that never goes out of style can be found on Amazon Prime.

Who doesn’t love these girlfriends!?

Do you want to be a Gladiator in a Suit? Well, this is the show for you. Scandal follows the interworking of the government, from rigging presidential elections, fixing politicians problems, and affairs in the White House, Scandal keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last second. Each season is even better than the last. While Olivia Pope is taking care of everyone elseā€™s problems, who is taking care of her? Will she stand in the sun with Jake or go to Vermont with Fitz?! The 7 seasons wrapped up this past year and the 40-minute episodes will have you on the edge of a cliff. See what all the hype is about but binge watching this on Netflix.

The Fixer and Boss…Olivia Pope

Whenever summer is dragging, or you just want to curl up and relax try watching one of these shows to change up your routine. What shows are you currently binge watching?! Let me know in the comments below! Happy viewing!
