Keeping Your Small Space Clean and Organized

Hey guys!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope your week is off to a great start! I canā€™t believe how fast time is going. I only have a few more weeks left in my LAST spring semester of college! Where has the time gone?? During my time in college, one of my favorite things and one of the biggest ways I have changed is by living on my own and being independent.

During my freshmen year, I had a roommate (my first time sharing a room), and I couldnā€™t have asked for a better roommate experience. My roomie and I are still best friends.

Remember my sweet friend, Danielle? Yes, we were roommate freshmen year and are still close, if not closer, we see each other multiple times each week. During my first year of college, I got a taste of what itā€™s like to live with someone new and have your own space, that is not home.

We met during Freshmen Orientation, and have been besties since, we have been through the highs and lows of life together

During my sophomore year, I lived alone, and I gained more independence by having a room to myself and being in control of the space.

In my junior year, not only did I still have my own room, but I got my own bathroom as well. Junior year has been the best year for me for many reasons, but having my own room and bathroom has been the absolute best.Ā

Today, I am sharing how to keep a small space cleaned and organized. I will probably update this post once I graduate but for now, here are the top things you should have in your space! Iā€™m a girl who works best with a routine, this year I made Friday morning my ā€œhouse keepingā€ day, basically I go to the gym, do my wash, change my sheets, clean my room etc. I like to keep it consistent by doing it at the same time every week and itā€™s fresh for the weekend. Here are my tips for keeping your space clean and things to have in your room.

  • Clorox wipes (Itā€™s no secret, I am a neat freak, so you better believe I always have Clorox wipes to clean my room. I am also a schedule person, so every week I set aside time to clean my bedroom, bathroom and get wash done so I am living in a clean space. Itā€™s amazing how fresh your space can feel when you wipe it down with a Clorox wipe, it gets rid of germs and keeps your space smelling clean.)
Top of my list for making sure your dorm stays clean
  • Pledge wipes (Another major must have. Itā€™s amazing how much dust can collect in a small dorm space or apartment. After I clean off my surfaces with Clorox wipes, I use a pledge wipe or two to get all the remaining dust off. Pledge wipes are also great for cleaning off devices, itā€™s crazy how much germs and smudges can be found on laptops, tablets, and cell phones.)
I love how these work on multiple surfaces and devices too!
  • Small Bissell vacuum (I got a small Bissell vacuum this past year and it has been a game changer. It is super light weight, easy to store and it makes cleaning go by much faster. Itā€™s amazing how much traffic our rooms get with people in and out, giving your floor a quick clean will make you feel much better in the end.)
Game Changer for this year, it’s amazing how much dirt and dust can be found on the ground
  • Command hooks (Not a cleaning item, I know. But Command hooks are a must in college dorm, although they can get expensive, you donā€™t want your favorite posters, pictures, and dorm dĆ©cor falling down. I have command hooks everywhere in my room, they are easy to put on and leave no marks when you take them down.
Any college student can relate to how important these are to a dorm room, decorating and making the space your own has never been so easy!
  • Reusable Containers, Silverware, and Water Bottles (Again, not a cleaning item, but it is so good to use plastic or glass dishware, it helps save the environment from all the trash build up and it saves money. If you invest in a few good water bottles, or dishes and silverware you are saving money from spending it on plastic silverware and cases of water.)
Saving the environment and keeping things classy in college

After living in a college dorm for the past few years, these items have worked best for me and werenā€™t necessarily on my packing list of things to bring but rather as I have lived on my own, I have realized they were necessary. What items have you found are most helpful when it comes to living on your own? Share them in the comments below! Have a great week ahead!

Dorm Room Tour

Hello all!

Happy Tuesday and welcome to the new month of November, the semester is flying by, I canā€™t believe that Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. I had intended for this post to go up months ago, but a funny thing called life happened. But, better late than never, right?!

Today, Iā€™m going to be giving you a peak into my dorm room this year, one of the perks of my job on campus is getting my own room and bathroom, and let me tell you, after sharing a bathroom for 20 yearsā€¦having my own bathroom has completely changed my life. I have lived in the same building for the last three years so if the rooms look similar, that’s why.

I have used the same room dƩcor from year to year, with adding a new piece or two each year.

Hereā€™s a peak into my room from freshmen year, I had a roommate freshmen year and we coordinated our colors. It was average sized, we each had our own dresser, desk, wardrobe, and bed. It was nice to have a roommate since I never shared a room with anyone, we are still best friends to this day, but I have to admit it’s nice to have my own room again.

Freshmen Year

Sophomore year was my first year solo, so I had more freedom with the layout of my room. With my own room, I had more space so I got two chairs from Bed Bath and Beyond. They weren’t too expensive but they will last me through college. I enjoyed the layout of this room, but I didn’t have a bathroom, I was okay with that since I still had my own room.

Now, here we are with junior year. I decided to had more portraits and posters to cover up white space. I went with a Paris theme for my bathroom. Teal, Black, and White are my colors with pops of gold mixed in. I love my set-up with this room, from the placement of things, to the view, and bathroom, it has been my favorite space to decorate thus far.

Love my view and this cute little corner

Some of my wall decor, I love this print of Paris at night

Another wall with the New York City skyline

This year has been my favorite set-up so far. I love the way the room flows as well as the space I have, itā€™s almost like a mini-apartment, it also give me great practice and ideas for when I have my own space one day.

Iā€™m so glad I was able to finally show you all my dorm room for the year, considering I spend most of my time here, itā€™s about time you see my space. I’m looking forward to see where I am living next year and how I will decorate that space.

What are your best memories from decorating your first place on your own?

Have a great week!

Look of the Day #69

LOTD

Happy Thursday friends!

Thursdays are my favorite day of the weekā€¦want to know why? Because the week is almost over and there is only one more day till the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, I am getting excited for the weekend with the help of this cute outfit. By this point, you all know how I love to mix and match outfits. I love to mix and match more than I like buying new stuffā€¦almost. I love coming up with different looks and create new outfits with things I already have in my closet. Who doesnā€™t like to show off a new outfit without spending a penny?

Letā€™s get to the details.

All smiles for the weekend

Last week, I talked about transiting my wardrobe from summer to fall, although it is still very warm outside, I am starting to wear darker colors to start getting in the fall mood. The colors I chose for my outfit are burgundy and black, even though I am in shorts and a short sleeve shirt, it still felt like a good mix of fall and summer.

I got this Fri-Yay shirt from Francescaā€™s Boutique. It is such a staple in my closet especially on Fridays when I have plans for the weekend. This black top can go with any outfit whether it is jeans, shorts, or leggings. Iā€™m obsessed.

These scalloped shorts are also from Francescaā€™s Boutique, I have worn them a lot of this summer and last summer and I loved how well they worked with this top. The colors blended so well.

There was a bit of a chill in the air so I wore this long black sweater to keep warm, and I love the fall(ish) look it added to my outfit. I got this sweater from Tilly’s.Ā

For shoes, I put on my favorite black sneakers. I got mine from Target and wore them a lot this summer but Iā€™m looking forward to wearing them in the fall even more. Not only are they comfortable but also stylish.

I donā€™t often post selfies, but I wanted to show off my burgundy choker and how it complements my shorts.

Thatā€™s the latest out I am wearing. I know it may seem crazy but Iā€™m really looking forward to some cooler weather so I can really get into the fall mood.

Happy fri-yay

Have a fantastic weekend!

Internships Do’s and Don’ts

With June almost through, something most college studentā€™s like myself have on their minds are internships. Whether they are in the process of completing them in the summer months or applying for them for the fall, internships are something every college student must endure.

Internships are not all that bad, they give students great experience for a career they may be considering, provide networking opportunities for college students, and may even lead to a job one day.

Off to a new day at work.

This summer I am completing my second internship and I am loving it. I am getting a lot of experience and learning things every day about a profession I am seriously considering. Last summer, I also completed an internship where I learned a lot as well. For both internships, I received college credit and they were nonpaid. Most internships only accept college credit and are nonpaid. If you have the opportunity to get a paid internship thatā€™s an added bonus-and you should accept it. Each internship is different in their own way.

I have complied a list of doā€™s and donā€™ts when it has come to internships. If you have worked or are currently working at an internship, please leave in the comments below any things you may add.

DO

-Show up on time (whether it is your first or last day be sure to arrive on time or a few minutes early to start the day. Ā Arriving early is always the start to a good impression)

-Dress Professional (When applying or interviewing for internships be sure to ask what the appropriate attire is so you can plan ahead. As well as being professional, make sure you are comfortable. As cute as heels are they are not good for being on your feet 8 hours a day-ballet flats all the way.)

-Ask questions and take notes (Donā€™t be afraid to speak up or ask questions, you wonā€™t learn things unless you ask. It can be intimidating the first few days and you will get a lot of information thrown at you, be sure to take notes and write everything down to make sure you keep everything in order.)

DONā€™T

-Be on your phone (Besides it being unprofessional to be on your phone while working, it takes away from the experience of what you are learning. If you find yourself with free time, try asking if there is anything that needs done or if there is anywhere you can help out.)

-Overstep or overshare (Keep in mind wherever you intern that you are an INTERN, you are not the center of attention- you are there to learn, observe, and help out where needed. You are not there to run the company but rather see how the company is run.)

-Just sit there and wait to be told what to do (Take initiative and see what you can do to help to do your part. Be a leader and show you are a go-getter and want to work hard. This will stand out to employers.)

These are just a few things Iā€™ve learned by completing two internships as well as asking employers as well as other friends who have interned at a variety of businesses. If you have interned someplace or hire interns what advice would you give to rising interns, leave them in the comments below! Good Luck with your summer jobs and internships.
