Getting Through the Winter Slump

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I hope you had a wonderful Valentineā€™s or Galentineā€™s Day! Now that we have made it through the holidayā€™s of the month, my mind is on the next seasonā€¦hello Spring! Just kiddingā€¦well kind of.

I love that I can live In a place with all four seasons, but sometimes, the cold and snow can seem never ending, especially when itā€™s May and you still have a chance of snow on Motherā€™s Day. As much as I love the winter months and winter activities, I have found myself in a bit of a winter slump.

Here’s just a little look at all the snow

At the start of the year, I found myself really tired with winter and it just got started. We kept getting hit with snow and cold weather, Covid-19 cases were high around my area and it seemed like we would never see warmer weather.

If you felt like this at all then you know what Iā€™m talking about. Iā€™m used to the cold and snow and gray clouds, but sometimes, the lack of sunshine really gets to you.

We got hit with two big snow storms in a month. Here’s a look at the snow.

I decided that wishing it was spring wouldnā€™t be productive so I did my best to change my mindset and find little things that brought joy and warmth to my days and make them a little less gray.

Hereā€™s what worked for me and if you are feeling this way, then maybe they will work for you.

I found the simple joys in the days and really leaned into them, like savoring my cup of tea in the morning with my candle lit. Instead of rushing through my morning routine of making a cup of tea, reading and doing a word search, I did my best to savor it and enjoy it and take pleasure in those simple joys.

Starting my days slower and savoring them definitely helped.
I also enjoyed cozy days off enjoying my favorite hobbies. Here’s what I’m currently reading.

I also found that moving and exercise helped my mood. I go to the gym during weekday mornings, but I carved more time to get some exercise, whether itā€™s a 15 minute yoga session at the end of the day or even a walk to get the mail, moving my body and getting fresh air made a big difference.

Enjoying the outdoors helped too…I enjoyed skating.
And cross country skiing…just make sure you are all bundled up!

I also decided to brighten my wardrobe and have some fun with it. Even though it is winter, I have been wearing brighter colors and fun jewelry to brighten up my outfits. Even if itā€™s swapping in a pair of hoops for a pair of studs, itā€™s little things like that that can just make you smile.

I also gave myself things to look forward to, whether it was a dinner date with a friend, making plans to see a new movie, or a mini day trip. Making plans for the future gives you something to look forward to and it shows you the importance of looking for the positives.

Making a winter bucket list gives you ideas for fun things to do while making the most of the weather! Here’s mine!

While the cold and winter may seem to last forever, we know that it will end but the snow mounds do make it hard to look past.

By always looking for the positives or simple moments of joy certainly makes a big difference. Also, by reminding ourselves to take it one day at time helps too.

What things do you do to make it through the winter slump?

Favorite Summer Accessories

For all you fashion lovers out here, today I have a real treat for you. Double fashion posts this week!!As we make our way through summer, I find myself using the same accessories over and over again. Some are new, some I have had for years. These accessories become staples in my wardrobe and are must haves for me. Now, some are very specific while others are more general.

Hereā€™s a look into my favorite summer accessories.

  • Bold necklace

I love a bold necklace, especially in the summer. I have gotten chunky necklaces from Old Navy,Ā Francescaā€™s,Ā and even Target. I not only like getting a variety of colors to mix and match with outfits, but I also love the different shapes and patterns that big necklaces come in. These eye-catching necklaces are perfect to dress up a solid color dress, blouse, or t-shirt. You can also dress up an outfit by just adding a statement necklace and earrings. Here are a few of my favorite necklaces that are constantly seen around my neck.

  • Gold Jewelry

Speaking of jewelry, when I have a busy outfit, or I am not in the mood to accessorize- which letā€™s be honest can happen. This summer I have been turning to simple gold jewelry to get me through the day. I used to only wear silver jewelry but now I find myself wearing gold jewelry more and more especially in the summer. Ā I like how itā€™s simple and not too overwhelming, but you donā€™t feel naked without having no jewelry. Here are my essentials. I love a set of gold balls, these are a perfect size-not too big and not too small. They are also great for a professional setting, not too flashy but just enough to look like you can dress for the job. I also pair my earrings with this simple gold Gemini necklace. I got mine from Francescaā€™s, itā€™s very personal but also simple. I got this ā€œloveā€ ring from Alex and Ani for my birthday. Anyone who knows me, knows that I adore Sex and the City. When I saw this ring, I couldnā€™t help but think about Carrie and Big. This ring is perfect for dressing up a business casual outfit. Finally, these bracelets from Alex and Ani are perfect to finish off a polished and professional outfit.

My gemini necklace, I always have it on, so simple, but a great piece of jewelry.

-Fun flats

After starting my internship, I knew I had to invest in a few pair of flats. I would prefer to go for heel, wedge or sneaker shoe-but those are not the most reasonable for the workplace. Therefore, I had to go down the flat route. I found simple black and nude flats easy, but then I cam across these shoes on sale at DSW and immediately fell in love. I love how they are slides, but the pattern is so fun, bright, and colorful. These slide shoes are becoming so popular, I have seen them in so many stores. Because there are so many colors on shoe, I can pair it with so many things, from a pink and white striped dress, and solid blue dress, even a short set. The possibilities are endless.

How cute are these fun flats, they can go with so many outfits!

  • Sun glasses

Lastly, no summer look would be put together without a pair of sunnies. I love sunglasses, but when I wore glasses, I would always be limited in what I could wear over my glasses. Now that I have contacts, I can choose from so many different pairs of sunglasses to go with outfits or what Iā€™m feeling. I typically donā€™t spend too much money on sunglasses since I like to switch them up so often. I do have a black aviator and big brown pair that I wear frequently. However, I got this pair from American Eagle on sale and I absolutely adore them. They have a unique shape and color that can really change any outfit from going drab to fab. A fun pair of sunglasses are always on my summer must have.

How fun are these glasses?!

Who doesn’t love fun, summer accessories?!

That rounds up my favorite summer accessories. What are some pieces that you canā€™t live without, especially in the summer weather?!
